Poetic Justice Foundation, in partnership with South Asian Studies Institute of the Fraser Valley, Chetna Association of Canada and The Harish Sharma Foundation present an intimate conversation between Dr. Satwinder Bains and eminent scholar, author nd public intellectual Dr. Suraj Yengde.

Dr. Yengde is known for his work in the fields of caste, race, ethnicity, and international human rights and is one of the leading voices on Dalit rights and has been influential in bringing the conversation about caste to a global platform.

In this talk, Dr Yenge takes a look at the kinetic sources of csate and its porosity among the diasporic Indian society.  The ambiguity of caste identity was so ingraned in the habits of 'lower castes' dieaspora that it was left to the forgetfulness.  However, the cultures and lived realities of oppressed cate groups remanined intact in their worship, eating habits and intermarriges among others.

Dr. Yengde holds a Ph.D. from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, where his research focused on the intersection of caste and race, examining the lives of the Dalit diaspora. His academic and advocacy work spans several countries, including India, South Africa, and the United States, highlighting his commitment to fighting against all forms of discrimination and oppression.

Dr. Yengde's contributions have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, reflecting his profound impact on social justice movements. His work continues to inspire activists, scholars, and policymakers to engage with the challenges of caste and race, advocating for a more equitable and just society.
