Social Justice 101

Oppression

Social Justice 101 is a foundational educational workshop series designed to build shared language, frameworks, and commitments around contemporary social justice issues. Through interactive facilitation, community dialogue, and accessible theory, participants gain tools to understand structures of power and strengthen solidarity across communities. The series includes three core modules:

Queerness & Transness 101: This workshop provides an overview of cisheteropatriarchy to frame LGBTQIA+ issues systematically. Participants learn key terminology and identity markers used by queer and trans communities, examine how gender and sexuality are culturally constructed, and explore how queer/trans movements challenge normative power structures. The workshop concludes by inviting participants to consider queer politics as a collective ethical commitment beyond individual identity.

Anti-Racism & Decolonization 101: This workshop provides an overview of the social, political, and economic construction of race. Participants learn how racism operates as a systemic force, how it intersects with capitalism, imperialism, and other “-isms,” and how racialization shapes lived experience. The workshop introduces decolonization as a framework for unsettling dominant structures and invites reflection on meaningful solidarity with racialized and Indigenous communities.

Anti-Casteism 101: This workshop interrogates the pervasiveness of caste and casteism within South Asian and diasporic contexts, including how caste structures space, culture, and everyday life. Participants learn about historical and ongoing caste resistance movements, contemporary caste discrimination, and the legal and institutional landscapes surrounding caste. The workshop concludes by building toward inter-caste, inter-faith, and inter-racial solidarity as essential to anti-caste futures.
