Hosted by the Poetic Justice Foundation and McGill University's Department of Integrated Studies in Education, this event marked an important dialogue during Dalit History Month. We convened a panel of esteemed professors from Dalit, Indigenous, and Black backgrounds to engage in a forthright and in-depth discussion on the intersections of race, caste, and Indigeneity within higher education in Canada and the United States.
Professors Shaista Patel, Robert Alexander Innes, and Rinaldo Walcott delved into the adversities and obstacles that students from marginalized communities encounter in academia. They shed light on the entrenched systems perpetuating inequality and discussed the imperative transformations required to foster equity and inclusivity in academic spaces.
